University of Iowa Healthcare recently completed and opened the fourth and fifth floors of their Iowa River Landing location. This new expansion added forty-two exam rooms to the current facility, increasing the number of clinic exam rooms from 99 to 141.

“The completion of the fourth and fifth floors has dramatically increased our ability to serve our patients in the Iowa River Landing,” said Steve Woodward, Administrator University of Iowa Healthcare. “Prior to completion, we were seeing approximately 500–600 appointments a day. With the completion of the fourth and fifth floors, that number will rise between 700–900.”

In addition to the increased capacity, the UIHC-Iowa River Landing location features numerous innovations designed to offer patients the highest level of care, convenience, and privacy. These features include a patient tracking system designed to reduce wait times, acoustic features to reduce noise in exam rooms, private lobby areas, and separate hallway and exam room entrances for staff and patients. Appointments, procedures, and lab draws can all be completed in one location. When lab draws are done prior to the appointment, given the on-site lab facility, results are often available to the provider during the clinic visit.

The new procedure suite space on fifth floor has 18 private-prep / post-recovery rooms for the five procedure rooms. Screening colonoscopies will be the majority of the procedures completed with Gynecology and Urology also utilizing the space for outpatient procedures. “Access and location were two of the factors for locating the procedure suite at Iowa River Landing,” Woodward said.

“It’s very important for us to do everything we can to increase the convenience for our patients, since over one-third of the people we see every day are traveling an hour or more for our services,” Woodward added. “We’re excited by the possibilities that this expansion offers for our patients and their families.”
