Backpocket Brewing, Iowa’s largest craft brewery, has launched several summer events for area residents.

This Saturday, May 24th from 1:00 PM to 5:00 PM Backpocket will hold the first ever Border Hop Fest on the rooftop of the Coralville Marriott Parking Ramp. This event celebrates breweries you can’t normally enjoy in Iowa with craft beers from Minnesota, Wisconsin, Nebraska, and Missouri.

“The Boarder Hop Fest is a unique fest to the state,” said Jacob Simmons of Backpocket. “It brings in beers from around the region that simply can’t be found in Iowa. Ticket sales are still going strong and we expect to have 300-400 with room to grow next year.”

Tickets are $30 in advance and $35 at the door. This gets attendees a 7 oz. Border Hop tasting glass and unlimited 5 oz. pours from participating breweries. Water will be available. The Marriott will also sell concessions.

Summer also brings the return of movie nights on Thursdays at the Backpocket beer garden. Guests can enjoy pizza and a pint of beer while catching classic movies such as Forrest Gump and Field of Dreams on a 17-foot blow-up screen. In case of inclement weather, movies are shown on Sunday evenings.

“Movies in the beer garden were a huge hit last year,” added Simmons. “Families would come with blankets and take up all the grass space we had. Both inside and out were packed.
